Herod.; after Hdn. Gr. 1, 372,7; 515,24 ζήτρειον.Origin: IE [Indo-European] [501] *i̯eh₂- `search, require'Etymology: The gloss is discussed most beautifully by García-Ramon, Compos. Indogerm. (in memoroam J. Schindler) 1999, 77-95, who shows that ζητήρ means `avenger' just as Ved. yātár- (I 32, 14ab). It is derived from yā- 2 `ask, pray, require, desire'.
